How Machine Hire Works
Book the date
Send the date and the area; the deposit secures the machine.
Collect or take delivery
Collect the machine for free, or take delivery from R450, on the morning of the braai.
Cook over coals
Light the coals, clamp the meat, and turn it until a probe in the thickest part reads done.
Return it
Bring the machine back within 24 hours; the deposit comes back once it is checked.
What You Need for a DIY Spit Braai
- A level, open spot on lawn, paving or gravel, clear of thatch, roofs and overhanging branches
- The venue’s go-ahead for a charcoal fire, and the day’s fire-danger rating
- Enough time: four to six hours for a whole lamb, plus about an hour to set up, light the coals and rest the meat
- Meat clamped tight to the rod so it turns as one piece
- A garden hose or a fire extinguisher within reach
- Somebody watching the spit for the whole cook
Chef-Run Spit Braai Hire
Hire the chef with the machine and the meat, sides, setup and clean-up come with it. A lamb spit braai is R150 per person, a pork spit braai R129, a chicken spit braai R116 and a beef spit braai R245, each with a 25-guest minimum.

Can I take the hired machine to a farm?
Yes, once the farm confirms that a charcoal fire is allowed at the spot. Delivery beyond the base area is quoted on distance, or collect the machine for free.
How many people does one hired spit braai machine feed?
One hired spit braai machine cooks one whole lamb of 18 to 22 kg, which feeds 25 to 40 guests. A bigger group needs a second machine or the catered service.
Is charcoal included with machine hire?
No. Charcoal is supplied on request and quoted with the hire. Every catered booking includes the charcoal.
When does the machine-hire deposit come back?
The deposit comes back once the machine is returned and checked. It is R1,000 to R1,500, depending on the machine.
